Welcome to theWild Hog Canoe Race

The roughest, wildest, most challenging canoe race in the State! Our next event will take place on April 27, 2019. This will be our 42nd year, and it is sure to be even better than last year!

About The Race

The race takes place on Florida’s famous Waccasassa River and brings you through the heart of Florida’s back country. Sightings of deer, wild boar, alligators, and all types of snakes are a frequent occurrence for race contestants. The race covers 15 miles of twists and turns and the current rain fall can have a dramatic effect on the river, adding to the challenge.

The race starts at the Waccasassa Bridge, 6 miles west of the stop light in Bronson on State Rd 24. It finishes at US Highway 19 at the Waccasassa Bridge, 6 miles south of Otter Creek. Registration opens at 7:30am on race day on State Road 24 at the Waccasassa Bridge, and ends promptly at 9:15am. Rule Review will begin at 9:15am, and the race will start at 9:30am.:

While the Canoe Race contributes most of the funds to LARC, we do a number of other events throughout the year to help raise money. Here are some of the other events:

Canoe Race

The primary purpose of the Canoe Race is to serve as a fundraising tool for LARC (Levy Association for Retarded Citizens). LARC is a non-profit agency which operates a work activity center in Otter Creek for mentally handicapped adults.

Yard Sales

We have several yard sales each year to help raise money for LARC. Hunderds of people in our community come out to support the cause and browse through all of the donated treasures we receive.

Guest Speaking

Race president Keith Maynard is asked several times each year to come and speak at special events, rotary clubs, and lodges to eduacate folks about the Canoe Race. If you would like us to speak at your event please contact us to set up an appointment.

Meal Catering

Quite often we are asked to provide food at public events. These events include the Tour De Melon, Ride to Provide, and the Fanning Springs Parade of lights. Meals include Smoked BBQ Pork, Fried Fish, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Swamp Cabbage, Fries, and Baked Beans.

Join Us In 2019!

Race contestants will experience dragging their canoe through mud, over logs, dodging branches, not to mention the challenge of the occasional rapids.

With all that in mind, survivors still come back year after year for the ultimate test of endurance while enjoying good, old-fashioned country fun and fellowship.
